Procedure Details
One of the key benefits of fat transfer is that it avoids the use of foreign implants or chemicals. Those things have their place but it’s good to have options.
Small incisions are made in the area with fat to be removed, such as the love handles, thighs or abdomen. The incisions are very small. A cannula is then used to gently remove the excess fat. How much fat is up to totally up to you and your goals.
This fat is then purified and separated into different sized particles for how much bounce, volume and relative softness is needed. Usually, 3 sizes of particles are created: Milli, Micro and Nanofat. Fat used to restore lost cheek volume needs to be different from fat used for the lips and mouth.
Nanofat is the smallest particle size and can be used intra-dermally to rejuvenate skin, help CO2 laser heal more quickly and our favorite: to change the color of the dark skin under the eye that causes the dark circles.
We put the purified fat into whatever different area of the body would benefit from additional volume and structure. This defines and plumps the skin, much like a dermal filler.
Fat transfer is completed by Dr. Mahootchi and staff at our state-of-the-art licensed and accredited surgery center located in the Tampa Bay area just by our office. Minimal bruising a may be experienced after fat transfer, but generally fades soon after the treatment. Avoiding things that thin our blood before the procedure like aspirin, ibuprofen, alcohol and green tea really helps.
